Chapter 8

Homicide...Like in The First 48?

There was a time when I thought of  “the accident” and my immediate focus was the finality of death, the pain of grief, and the feeling of shame.  Then there was the lack of confidence in a system that was not designed for me nor my forgiveness.  I relied on faith, family, and friends to move with me through the process.

It was an extended 4th of July holiday week and just two weeks earlier I had resigned from Georgia State University.  My husband and I decided it would be best for me to stay home with our 1 and 2 year old.  The University had a wonderful going away party for me and one of the babies was with the in-laws.  One of the first things I did was to make it a mommy and me day with our 1 year old.  We were out enjoying the day, getting our nails done with plans to ride into Cobb County and look at a potential new house in a premier school district.

I mean why not?

I am a stay at home mom now, ready to get this well rounded parent thing going, dad is on the road completing inspections all is well until appx 3:00 pm on July 6, 2014 when our SUV was hit by a motorcyclist.
The accident happened so quickly with such low impact my truck hardly moved,  I got out of the truck to get my baby. My 1 year old’s movie was still playing in the car, however regrettably the impact was severe for the motorcyclist...

I stood next to him with my 1 year old on my hip as we waited for the ambulance.  I begged onlookers not to touch his helmet.  I knew that was a no-no…

Genesis 50:20  You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
